Singer, Voice Teacher, Master’s in Music, Estill EMCI-TP
Julie Cimon Racine first obtained her college degree in classical guitar from the Cégep de Sainte-Foy (Québec) and pursued her studies at Université Laval where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education (classical singing) in 1989. She went on to complete a master's degree in pop and jazz vocal education in 2003, during which she studied with the singer Ranee Lee. For a period of 10 years, Julie performed as a singer-imitator on the morning radio show La Jungle en Folie (CHIK-99). She also performed as a backup singer on television, in studios and on stage. Two-time CALQ recipient (Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec), she developed a passion for Brazilian music and perfected her skills in this musical genre during several trips to Rio de Janeiro. She is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese and regularly performs on stage in Québec City with her trio Jazz e Brasileiro, sharing her time between teaching at the college level and performing on stage. She has been a private coach for over 30 years and has 25 years of experience as a voice teacher at the Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (pop-jazz singing, jazz vocal ensemble, Estill Voice Training courses and vocal improv labs) while pursing her mission to help artists from here and abroad to master and maintain a healthy voice.
In 2009, she discovered Estill Voice Training through Kim Steinhauer, who later became her mentor; a turning point in her teaching career. In 2010, she led several Estill Voice Training sessions in Québec City in order to provide greater access to the model to a broader range of people passionate about the art of the voice. She obtained her EMT certification in 2012.
First francophone to hold an Estill EMCI teaching certificate (in 2015), Julie also translated the Estill material into French (visual presentations, Level One and Two workbooks, Figures at a glance, Certification at a glance, etc.). Today, she is pleased to provide access to Estill Voice Training in French, English and Portuguese. As a mentor, Julie guides future Estill Voice Training EFPs and EMTs during their certification process through her training program. She is a member of the EVI Certification Advisory Board since August 2017 (4-year mandate).
